Milwaukee Legislative Caucus
Members Back Governor
on Rosen Reappointment
Governor correct to go ahead despite
Republican refusal to confirm
September 7, 2006
Madison – Members
of the Milwaukee Legislative Caucus issued this statement
today:
“Governor Doyle was without a doubt
justified in his decision last week to reappoint Professor
Michael Rosen, of Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC),
to the Wisconsin Technical College System Board. State Senate
Republicans had already added Professor Rosen to their very
long list of unconfirmed Doyle appointees. Their refusal
to approve Doyle nominees has left Prof. Rosen and many
others in limbo about the validity and future of their roles
on critical state boards, and has impaired the efficient
functioning of these Boards as well. These include the State
Dentistry Board, the Veterans’ Board, and the University
of Wisconsin Board of Regents.
“Since Professor Rosen’s vita
shows him to be impeccably qualified, clearly the State
Senate refused to confirm his reappointment solely for political
reasons. Their refusal shows they do not act based on nominees’
merits, but only on the fact that a Democratic governor
nominated them.
“We deplore this lack of respect
for the confirmation process as managed this session by
the Republican majority in the State Senate. They should
have shunned extreme partisanship in favor of the best interests
of Wisconsin’s citizens, whom they were elected to
serve.
“We thank Governor Doyle for his
confidence in Professor Rosen and for his willingness to
reappoint him despite Republican manipulation of the confirmation
process”
