Know Your Rights Event: Thank you for Showing Up in Solidarity!

Thank you to everyone who attended our AFT Local 212 Know Your Rights – Immigration Forum. We had a strong turnout, thoughtful participation, and meaningful conversations throughout the training.

A heartfelt thank you to Voces de la Frontera for leading such a clear, practical, and empowering session. Their expertise helped ensure that our members feel informed and prepared.

During the forum, we learned:

How to be prepared when interacting with law enforcement, including immigration agents

Our four basic constitutional rights and how to assert them

The difference between judicial warrants and administrative warrants

What to do if ICE comes to MATC — which is to call Public Safety immediately and follow established campus protocol

These are not abstract conversations. They are real-life scenarios that require calm, knowledge, and solidarity. The great questions and respectful dialogue showed how deeply our members care about protecting themselves, their colleagues, and our students.

If you were not able to attend, or if you would like a refresher, we will be offering a follow-up training soon. Stay tuned for the Save the Date.

When we know our rights, we protect each other.

When we stand together, we build power.
