New Local 212 Deputy VP Professional Staff Peter Couto

Peter is an Academic Life Coach at MATC. (B.A. Alverno College, A.A. MATC). He was born in Rio de Janeiro, but grew up in Santos, Brazil. He moved to the United States when he was 26 years old and has taught both children and adults with special needs. He was a kindergarten teacher at MPS, taught in the College for Kids program for years at UWM, and has been a MATC employee since 2013. 

Peter is very active in the community and provides support to everyone he meets. He raised hundreds of dollars for the homeless as the President for Student Wisconsin Education Association. Peter recently joined the Union and is already making outstanding contributions. He created the online Case Form, advocated for higher wages for staff, served as the delegate for Local 212 at the AFL-CIO convention and voted in important resolutions that address supporting our Public K-12 Education, Strengthening our UWM & WCTS, and Fixing America’s Broken Labor Laws.
