The Stop AZCN Saga Continues
[Local 212 members and others voice their concerns about the for profit nursing college]
Representatives from Local 212, the Committee for Equity in Nursing Education, and the Wisconsin Federation of Nurses gathered last week outside Arizona College of Nursing (AZCN) in Milwaukee to protest the predatory practices of for-profit nursing schools. The demonstration, held on the final day of National Nursing Week, called attention to concerns over high tuition costs, inadequate clinical training opportunities and low graduation rates at for-profit programs.
Organizers are demanding the Wisconsin Legislature hold these institutions accountable by setting stricter operational standards, limiting advertising budgets, and requiring greater investment in direct instruction. They also urged Governor Evers to allocate more of the state’s $4.5 billion budget surplus to Wisconsin’s public nursing programs, rather than welcoming new for-profit ventures.
