Tax Cuts for the Rich, ACT 10 to Blame for High Property Taxes

In this opinion piece published in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, retired AFT Local 212 leaders and active Retiree Chapter members Charlie Dee, Michael Rosen, and Frank Shansky explain that Wisconsin Republicans are attempting to blame others for problems created by their own policies—especially Act 10.

Act 10 was the anti-worker legislation that has cost MATC employees thousands of dollars, and yet failed to deliver on its promises of job growth and affordability.

They explain that the Republicans' failure to adequately fund public schools, tech colleges, and local government has caused local property taxes to soar. The article suggests that LRB-3872 is a fairer alternative because it will eliminate K-12 school costs from property taxes and replace them with higher taxes on top earners and large corporations.
