AFT Local 212 Recertification Victory!

Local 212 is proud to share that all four bargaining units have successfully completed their recertification elections!

Here are the official results based on votes cast:

Thank you to the nearly 1,000 MATC colleagues who participated—your vote reflects the strength of our collective voice and commitment to one another.

At Tuesday’s MATC Board meeting, Dr. Lisa Conley announced that Local 212 has once again won recertification by wide margins and acknowledged our collective contributions made to our college and community.

Under Wisconsin Act 10, public sector unions are required to recertify annually—and importantly, non-votes are counted as “no” votes. That means every vote truly matters in protecting our collective voice and representation at the college.

This year, we gathered over 100 statements from colleagues sharing why recertification is so important. Below are just a few powerful reflections:

“Recertification of the union is important because it ensures continued employee support in bargaining, promotes accountability of institutional leadership, and keeps representation aligned with the current needs and interests of instructors.”
— Ruthell McKinney

“It's important for employees to have a voice in the workplace and in their workspaces. This creates an environment where employees can feel safe, valued, and heard.”
— Cynthia Haynes

“212 serves to remind those in power to consult their better angels. 212 provides checks & balances of power and defends a more just distribution of resources at MATC.”
— Amy Callahan
