Executive Board Retreat Builds Power and Plans for the Year Ahead

Local 212’s Executive Board came together Saturday, August 23 for our Annual Organizing Retreat, bringing together Vice Presidents, Deputy Vice Presidents, Committee Chairs, Advocates, and leaders from all four of our bargaining units. This retreat provided essential training to address current challenges facing the college, including but not limited to, the elimination of four Multicultural Affairs positions, while also grounding both new and returning board members in the structure and responsibilities of our union.

Throughout the retreat, the Executive Board members collaborated on a formal statement in support of the terminated Multicultural Affairs employees (linked here), and developed plans to guide union organizing, issue tracking, and membership growth for the academic year. Leaders also designed systems to better monitor workplace concerns and ensure college accountability, while outlining each Bargaining Unit Council’s role in member education and outreach.

A major focus of the retreat was strengthening Local 212’s visibility and engagement across all campuses. To foster solidarity and build community, Bargaining Unit Council teams developed strategies that include campus pop-up events, social gatherings, and all-represented meetings. Dates for these upcoming activities are listed in the "Dates to Remember" section below.

The energy, collaboration, and strategic focus of this year’s retreat set a strong foundation for Local 212’s continued advocacy and growth.
