Ramadan Iftars At MATC

This week marks the end of the month of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month where many of our students and colleagues have been fasting from sunrise to sunset. Colleagues and students gathered last week for a Ramadan iftar (a meal to commemorate breaking the day’s fast) at the Milwaukee and Oak Creek campuses.

Attendees heard from college leadership, who emphasized the importance of supporting Muslim students and fostering an inclusive campus environment. The most moving moments of the night came from the students themselves, who took the stage to share what Ramadan means to them. From the discipline of the fast to the joy of family traditions, their stories provided the audience with a personal look at the significance of the holy month, bridging the gap between different cultures through shared human experiences

In a historic first for the college, the MATC Catering team prepared a fully halal menu. More than just a dinner, this marked a vital step in recognizing and supporting the specific needs of our Muslim community, ensuring students could break their fast with a traditional meal alongside their peers. The result was an evening defined by connection and cultural awareness, proving that when we eat together, we grow together.

March 20 marks the end of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid al-Fitr. Be sure to wish Muslim students and colleagues “Eid Mubarak!”
