AFT Local 212 Social Solidarity Semester-End Soiree

Over 95 Local 212 represented individuals and community partners gathered to celebrate the end of the 2025-2026 academic year.

The event took place at the historic Blue Ribbon Hall of Best Place on May 27, 2026. It featured a jazz trio performance by MATC music students and a BBQ buffet from Smoke Shack. Members of Local 212 leadership were present to address the crowd and engage in conversations about building relationships and supporting policy and advocacy discussions.

AFT WI president Jon Shelton addressed the group regarding the vision for overturning ACT 10, among other state-wide initiatives. COPE Chairperson Steve Shea and AFT President Jon Shelton reminded all about the importance of remaining politically active. President Lisa Conley provided an update on issues, acknowledged the important work members perform, and how our roles have become increasingly complicated due to administration tactics and policies, including the destruction of shared governance and collective voices.

Feedback received confirmed that the event provided a much-needed opportunity to recognize and celebrate the hard work and dedication of frontline workers throughout a successful academic year.

The event also reinforced the importance of becoming actively involved in union activities, while providing opportunities for participants to join and engage with the union. We extend a sincere thank you to all of the sponsors and coordinators whose efforts made this memorable event possible.
