In Remembrance: Philip Blank

AFT Local 212 mourns the loss of retired President of AFT Local 212 Philip Blank, who passed away on June 5.

Phil dedicated 35 years of service to MATC, beginning his career in 1957 as a mathematics instructor and later serving as an advisor to international students. A proud U.S. Air Force veteran, he was also a tireless advocate for faculty, staff, students, and the labor movement.

As President of Local 212 from 1962 to 1963, Phil helped lead the union during a pivotal period in Wisconsin labor history, shortly after public employees won the right to collectively bargain. Even after retiring from MATC in 1992, he remained active in union and community affairs, supporting Local 212's Committee on Political Education, the FAST Fund, scholarships for students, and numerous efforts to advance educational equity and social justice.

Phil lived a life defined by service, leadership, and a deep commitment to building a more fair and equitable society. His impact on MATC, Local 212, and generations of students and educators will not be forgotten.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Phil's family, friends, and colleagues.

For those who would like to learn more about his remarkable life and legacy, we have attached a eulogy written by Dr. Rosen.
