A Message from Local 212 Vice President for PTF
We hope everyone has had a smooth beginning to the new semester. For the Part-Time Organizing Committee we have been focusing on advocating for Part-Time Faculty, raising our visibility as a union, representing members' individual concerns and recruiting new members. It's been great seeing many of you at our pop ups downtown, in Oak Creek and at Mequon. The last of the pop up is on Wednesday, the 30th in West Allis room 114 at 1:00 PM. We hope to see our West Allis members there- come by and have some lunch!
One issue that we have been hearing about a lot is FQAS compliance.
Remember:
"New faculty work with a Faculty Coach throughout their initial period. The process involves regular meetings with the coach, reviewing goals, and a classroom observation with the purpose of coaching and mentoring. Coaches continue working with part-time faculty in developing and updating Teaching Action Plans (TAP) that identify opportunities for personal and professional growth. The Faculty Evaluation of Professional Development is done at the end of the FQAS cycle and is completed with the faculty’s supervisor (Dean or Associate Dean)."

Part-time faculty complete their initial FQAS requirements within five years of hire, whether they teach consecutive semesters or not."
If you have any questions about the FQAS cycle contact us (Stacy Smiter stacyhr@matc.edu or Christopher Fons cfons.local212@gmail.com) or The Center for Teacher Excellence directly (cte@matc.edu). Your employment status and wage are affected by this process.
It is really important that we grow our membership if we are going to be an effective organization. We have many new hires every semester. It is really important that we reach out to them and educate them about the union and ask them to be members. The Part-Time Faculty Organizing Committee is always looking for new members. Please contact us or our new organizing director Quinn Cory (qcory@local212.org) if you want to assist in our membership drive.
