AFT joins coalition suing ICE, DHS, FBI to prevent sending agents to midterm polls
USA Today covered the coalition lawsuit to block the Trump administration from sending federal agents to polling locations, which expresses fear that these tactics will intimidate voters and violate the Voting Rights Act. The federal government has already been deploying agents to monitor polls during primary elections across the country under the guise of upholding “honest” elections. The lawsuit argues that the presence of federal agents, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement, at polls would mean “voters across the country—particularly Black, Latino, and Asian voters, naturalized citizens, and members of mixed-status families—are afraid to vote, help others vote, and participate in civic life.”
